League of Women Voters of Arizona – Ballot Initiatives Past and Present: Democracy in Action

November 20 @ 10:00 am

We are all familiar with ballot propositions and their three-digit numbers – Prop 206, Prop 207, Prop 208. But what about ballot initiatives? How do they originate? And what are the challenges of getting them on the ballot and making them law?
To learn more about these voter-driven campaigns, join the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson for our November Voter Education Program. In this Zoom webinar, we will offer an overview of ballot initiatives, their history, how they work, and the challenges involved, as well as an inside look at the Justice for All Ballot Initiative in Pima County and the Predatory Debt Collection Protection Act in Arizona.
Panelists:
Margo Cowan is a longtime Pima County Public Defender and human and workers’ rights activist who received the 2021 Michael Maggio Memorial Pro Bono Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Cindy Soffrin has been a member of LWVGT’s Speakers Bureau for two years and has given numerous speeches on gerrymandering and ballot propositions.
Amanda Villa is a native Arizonan who has worked on campaigns to raise the minimum wage, fund early childhood education, and protect the Affordable Care Act.
PREREGISTRATION ON ZOOM IS REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT! Register at https://bit.ly/3phyvVZ. Program registrants will receive the link to the program on November 20.
