Peace At The Polls: January 6 Vigil for Democracy (AZ)

January 6 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join a coalition of organizations to call for Peace At the Polls.
ARIZONA’S PEACE AT THE POLLS MOVEMENT: building confidence in our future elections by assuring peaceful elections, protecting voting rights and defending democracy.
Arizona’s League of Women Voters joins with more than 60 Arizona to organizations and hundreds of organizations around the country in the history-making Declaration for American Democracy.
As the anniversary of the Jan. 6 coup attempt approaches, this coalition of non-partisan democracy defenders calls on the public to stand with us to assure Peace at the Polls and the survival of American democracy. Throughout 2022, we will speak up and stand up in response to both the Jan. 6 insurrection at our nation’s Capitol and the growing call to violence against our democracy.
The survival of our democracy depends on Americans coming together—setting aside political, philosophical, social, economic, racial, ethnic, religious, regional and community differences. Together, we will assure that the right to vote is guaranteed, votes are counted and reported with integrity, and duly-elected officials and workers are free to serve the people in an atmosphere of peace.
The League of Women Voters of Arizona, African American Christian Clergy Coalition, Arizona Faith Network, Mi Familia Vota, AZ Jews for Justice, The People, Service Employees International Union, AFL/CIO, Rural Arizona Action, Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter and AZ AANHPI for Equity are joined by more than 60 Declaration for American Democracy organizations in Arizona as we prepare to embark on a year of action.
Through a variety of programs, actions and events, we will defend voting rights, promote civil discourse, challenge efforts to undermine the lawful administration of elections, work to assure the peaceful transfer of power once the people have voted, and insist on the safety of our election workers, volunteers and elected officials.
We are alarmed by and will work to prevent:
Violence and intimidation in the political milieu, at polling places, at vote counting establishments, and in venues (including school board meetings) where our elected officials do the work we elected them to do.
Attempts to discourage voters through fear or intimidation. Threats and intimidation of election workers and volunteer poll observers, causing them to fear for themselves and their families.
