Phoenix Democratic Socialists of America – ABCs of Socialism: The Socialist Case for Gender Equality
November 19 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
OPEN TO MEMBERS & NON (aka FUTURE)-MEMBERS
So you joined the Democratic Socialists of America (or maybe you’re considering it). You agree that we need to fight for political revolution and strive to create an America that works for everyone — but are you still working out what it means to be a socialist? The Phoenix DSA Welcome Committee invites you to the third installment of our “ABCs of Socialism” reading group at 6:30pm on Thursday, November 19th!
Join us for an open discussion on the general principles of democratic socialism. We’ll discuss some of the theory behind socialist thought in a beginner-friendly manner, so that we can understand how to apply it in practice.
In this series we are discussing selections from Jacobin Magazine’s same title, “The ABCs of Socialism”. You can access the PDF here:
Considering the election, the recent confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, and concerns rising around the issue of gender equality, the primary selection for this discussion will be “Aren’t Socialism and Feminism Sometimes in Conflict?” Additional reading will be posted here when and if it becomes available.
This event will begin with a brief leadoff on the topic followed by an open discussion, so we encourage everyone to come with open minds and plenty of questions!
You can register for this event at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/…/tZUoceGvqTosGN0rydUkj1QzpNEMu…
Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive an email with details on how to join the meeting. We hope to see you there!
