Phoenix Democratic Socialists of America – Yes on 208 Car Caravan – Tell AZ Chamber of Commerce: Back Off!
November 1 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Come join Phoenix DSA to fight for Invest in Ed against the big money interests that stand in the way! We’ll be holding a car caravan targeting the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, and a socially distanced rally afterwards including strike leader Rebecca Garelli! Bring signs and wear red!
Two years ago teachers banded together in a militant wave of walkouts that won significant concessions, but Arizona education is still woefully underfunded. We stand on the edge of another big step forward with Prop 208 (Invest In Ed) which would take about $900 million every year from the 1% and put it into our classrooms, undoing the 12 years of cuts Arizona education has faced since the Great Recession.
Big business stands in the way! The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been running an astroturfing “No on 208” campaign, trying to give the impression that it’s coming from ordinary citizens by calling the PAC they’re funding “Arizonans for Great Schools and a Strong Economy.” The misleading negative ads come from big business and the wealthy few who do not share the same needs or outlook as the rest of us. Prop 208 would not tax businesses, but what the AZ Chamber of Commerce is really afraid of is everyday working people gaining more experience of winning when we organize and fight together!
Tell the AZ Chamber of Commerce: Shut down your PAC! We support Prop 208, and any related fight needed to overcome all obstacles to properly funded education and safe schools.
Join Phoenix DSA and community allies in a car caravan event, followed by a rally outside the AZ Chamber of Commerce building, Sunday 11/01 starting at 2 PM.
At 2 PM we’ll start gathering at Steele Indian School Park (Central & Camelback, 300 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85012) to make signs and paint our cars.
At about 2:30 PM we’ll start to head out for the car caravan and head toward the AZ Chamber of Commerce building (3200 N Central Ave # 1125, Phoenix, AZ 85012).
After a few loops, we’ll hold a socially distanced rally outside the building, where community members will speak on why we support Prop 208, including Arizona strike leader Rebecca Garelli and more! Bring your signs and wear red!
